Getting started

Installing and using the HDfury Diva input lag tester

The supplied lag tester is a light sensor on a lead. Stuck to a box that Diva draws on screen, it measures how long your display takes to show what it has been sent.

Running a test

  1. Connect the lag tester cable to the IR sensor input on the Diva, the same jack the IR RX cable uses.
  2. Enable LAG test mode in the webserver. Once activated, a squared window appears on the active video from TX1.
  3. Choose where that window sits with the target setting: left top, centre, or right bottom.
  4. Stick the lag tester onto the boxed area on the screen, so the light sensor sits over the square.
  5. Start the test and wait for the results, which are reported on screen in the top left corner.

Accuracy in milliseconds is quoted to one decimal place. Because you can place the sensor in three different on-screen locations, you can measure more than one part of the panel and see whether your display's lag varies across the screen, which is useful on sets that process the top and bottom of the image at different times.

Testing lag for a 4K HDR signal

Since the test pattern is generated on TX1, measuring a display's input lag for a 4K HDR signal takes one extra cable. Connect the TX1 output back into a Diva input, and route that input to TX0. The display under test then sits on TX0 and receives the boxed window as part of a 4K HDR signal, while the measurement still originates from TX1.

For that loop to give a meaningful number, the Diva scaling parameters must be at their defaults, otherwise you are measuring your own scaling rules as well as the display.

  • Scaling should be at default, with AUTOSCALING enabled in the Scaling section of the webserver.
  • The autoscaling presets should be at their defaults too, with AUTOSENSE selected and UPSCALING enabled.
  • HDR to SDR conversion for the TX0 output should be disabled, which means setting Profile 0-OFF in the TOOLS section.

All three lag tester controls sit together in the webserver, alongside the LEDstrip settings, and are described in the TOOLS section of this manual.

ACTIVATE LAG TEST
Turns the lag tester mode on or off. With it on, the squared window appears on the active video from TX1, marking where the light sensor must be placed.
TARGET
Selects where on the screen the input lag test window is located: left top, centre or right bottom.
START TEST
Begins the measurement once the sensor is correctly placed on the squared window. Results are reported in the top left corner via the on-screen display, in milliseconds to one decimal.

If nothing appears when you enable the mode, check that the display you are looking at is fed from TX1, or that your loop back to TX0 is in place. HDfury also publish a Diva LAG test video on YouTube showing the sensor being positioned, which is worth a look before your first attempt.
