The HDfury Diva TOOLS section: ambient light, tone mapping and the lag tester

TOOLS is where the ambient light strip is tuned, the tone-mapping profile is chosen, and the input lag tester and pattern generator are driven. None of it affects the signal your display receives.

Tone-mapping profile

PROFILE selects the tone-mapping profile that works best for your display. Most people get the best result from Profile 2, but some displays render slightly better colours on a different profile, so it is worth trying the neighbouring ones on real content before settling.

Ambient light effects

The LED strip reacts to the picture, and this is where you decide what it does in each state. Installation is covered on the ambient light strip page; everything below assumes the strip is already fitted and connected.

ACTIVE VIDEO
The light effect applied when there is active video. The default is FOLLOW ACTIVE VIDEO; you can turn it off or pick another effect instead. An audio-driven effect is underway for a future firmware update and will be selected here.
WHILE SYNCING
The effect applied when there is no active video, so you can have something different happening while sources or sinks are switched off.
NEVER TURN OFF
Keeps an effect running permanently, even with no active video and with sources and sinks powered down.
VIDEO GAMMA
Alters the gamma used to derive the light from the picture. Depending on the profile combination or the colour of the wall behind the screen, a small change here renders better colours. The default is 2.2.
PULSATING SPEED
The speed of the pulsating light effect.
ROTATING SPEED
The speed of the rotating light effect.
STATIC COLOR SELECTION
The colour used by the static colour effect, set as R, G and B values from 0 to 255.
LED ELEMENT GLOBAL COLOR CALIBRATION
Boosts or reduces R, G and B intensity across all the LEDs, on a scale of 0 to 31. This is the control to use when the strip has a cast, rather than fighting it with the static colour values.

The input lag tester

The Diva can measure the input lag of a display using the supplied light sensor. The physical setup is described on the input lag tester page; the three controls here run the measurement.

ACTIVATE LAG TEST
Turns lag tester mode on or off. Once activated, a squared window appears on active video from TX1, and that is where the light sensor must be placed.
TARGET
Where on the screen the test window sits: left top, centre, or right bottom.
START TEST
Starts the measurement once the sensor is correctly placed on the square. The result is reported in the top left corner of the screen through the OSD, accurate to one decimal place in milliseconds.

Test patterns

The ENABLE option at the bottom of the section puts a test pattern on the TX0 output, which is useful for testing equipment when you want a known signal rather than whatever a source happens to be sending. Configure it with the dropdown fields first, then enable it. Resolutions available are 480p60, 720p60, 1080p60, 4K24 and 4K60; the pattern can be colour bars, ramp 1 or ramp 2; and HDCP can be set to none, 1.4 or 2.2, which makes this a quick way to prove what a display or AVR will actually accept.
