The HDfury Diva HDR and Dolby Vision section: metadata, AVI infoframes and the DV datablock
This section decides what your display is told about the picture: read the metadata arriving from the source, build your own, replace what is there, or stop it reaching the display entirely.

Everything here operates on infoframes: the small packets a source sends alongside the picture to say what the picture is. HDR infoframes describe brightness and colour volume, AVI infoframes describe format and colorimetry. Change the packet and you change how the display behaves, without touching a pixel of video.
Reading what is arriving
- CAPTURED HDR METADATA
- If the source sends HDR infoframe metadata it is captured, extracted and shown in this text box, and also deciphered into human readable form.
- CAPTURED AVI METADATA
- If the source sends an AVI infoframe it is captured here, with the hex deciphered and the VIC, colorimetry and range exposed in readable form.
- CAPTURED INPUT DOLBY VISION METADATA
- The Dolby ID and hex data from the Dolby Vision source.
The custom HDR metadata generator
This section creates your own HDR metadata and injects it into the current signal, adding it where there was none or replacing what the source sends. Define the values below, click Create IF, and the result appears in the text box in hex. What the Diva does with it depends on which box you tick; all are unchecked by default, and the choice persists over hot plugs and power cycles.
- Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1
- Turns on the HDR mode of any HDR display unconditionally: the infoframe you created is sent, so you decide what it is. If the input is already HDR, its original metadata is ignored.
- Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is HDR10
- The same, but only when the input is already HDR. Its original metadata is ignored and yours goes out instead.
- Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is HLG
- Turns on the HDR or HLG mode of a display only when the input is already HLG, ignoring the original HLG metadata. This is how you render HLG content on an HDR display.
- Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is HLG and display has no HLG support
- Conditional on the display too: it applies only when the input is HLG and the television has no support for it. With two televisions connected, one HLG capable and one not, turning off the HLG set changes the metadata automatically.
- Disable output HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is HDR10
- Diva intercepts and cancels all incoming HDR10 metadata; HLG still passes through.
- Disable output HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is HLG
- Diva intercepts and cancels all incoming HLG metadata; HDR10 still passes through.
- Disable all output HDR
- Diva intercepts and cancels all incoming HDR metadata, and sends nothing.
The HDR values you can set
- EOTF
- SDR Luminance Range, HDR Luminance Range, HLG ITU-R BT.2100-0 or SMPTE ST 2084.
- Primaries
- DCI P3, ITU-R BT 709-5 or ITU-R BT2020-2.
- White Point
- The white point value used in the metadata.
- Max Luminance
- Valid from 1 to 65535.
- MaxCLL
- The maximum content light level, valid from 1 to 65535.
- Min Luminance
- Valid from 1 to 65535.
- MaxFALL
- The maximum frame average light level, valid from 1 to 65535.
- Create IF
- Uses the values you defined to create the custom HDR metadata.
- Send HDR
- Sends it. Enable custom HDR, or one of the custom HDR modes, must be activated first, and unchecking that is the off switch. Send HDR never stops injection, it only changes the values, which avoids a television resync.
- Default Value
- Restores the default hex value of the custom HDR metadata.
The custom AVI infoframe generator
The AVI infoframe describes the video format itself, so building your own tells a display something the source is not saying: the common case is activating BT.2020 mode in a television whose content is not sending the correct infoframe.
- Use custom AVI
- The infoframe in the custom AVI text box gets used, so you decide what it is, and clicking sends the currently stored value. It persists over hot plugs and power cycles. Uncheck to stop sending; Send AVI only changes values rather than stopping injection, which avoids a resync.
- Disable AVI
- Prevents the source AVI infoframe reaching the sink at the Diva output, and stops any custom AVI previously set. Useful for DVI displays and monitors that behave badly on receiving an AVI infoframe.
- VIC
- Selects the VIC code used in the custom AVI hex field.
- Primaries
- Selects the primaries value used in the custom AVI hex field.
- Range
- Selects the range value used in the custom AVI hex field.
- Create IF
- Uses the values you defined to create the custom AVI metadata.
- Send AVI
- Replaces the incoming AVI infoframe with the custom one in the text box. The string is saved and persists over hot plugs and power cycles.
The Dolby Vision EDID datablock
Diva automatically sniffs, displays and saves any Dolby Vision mandatory string from a sink connected at TX0, and deciphers the datablock into human readable form. Once stored, that string can be used in Automix to ensure the Dolby Vision stream from the source is compatible with the sink.
That storage is what makes the feature useful rather than merely informative. Once a display's string is saved, you can insert an AVR or other equipment into the chain and still have the right Dolby Vision signal pass through to the sink. The Automix flags on the EDID tables page are where you act on it: DV Force Metadata, DV Remove and DV Limit 300MHz.
The other captured infoframes
- SPD INFOFRAME
- The captured Source Product infoframe.
- AUD INFOFRAME
- The captured audio format information. For PCM this usually gives the sample rate and number of speakers; for bitstream it usually reports the default, refer to stream header.
- HVS INFOFRAME
- The HDMI Vendor Specific infoframe.
- VSI INFOFRAME
- The HDMI 2.0 version of the HDMI vendor specific infoframe.
- HFV INFOFRAME
- The HDMI Forum vendor specific infoframe, shown when the source sends one.
- REFRESH
- Reloads the current page.
