HDfury Diva jack connections: IR, LED control, RS232 and audio out
Besides HDMI, the Diva carries a row of small jack sockets. Each one has a single job, and knowing which is which saves you plugging the lag tester into the LED strip socket.
Infrared
There are three separate ways infrared reaches the Diva, and they are not interchangeable.
- IR window
- The receiver built into the unit itself, for local Diva central control. If you are installing a control system, this is where an IR TX LED is stuck on top, blasting directly into the window.
- IR RX jack
- For the supplied IR RX cable with its LED receiver on the end. Use this when the Diva is hidden in a rack or a cupboard and the remote needs a receiver somewhere it can see. This same input also accepts the Diva input lag tester, which is covered in the input lag tester section.
- Input jack
- A direct wired connection from a system controller, again for local Diva central control. It does not use an LED or light at all, so it is the cleanest option when the controller can output IR electrically rather than optically.
LED control out
This is where the ambient light strip kit connects, giving responsive lighting behind your display that follows whatever is playing at the Diva inputs. It carries control only; the strip is powered separately from its own adapter through the supplied Y cable. Installation is described in the ambient light strip section, and the effects and calibration controls live in the LEDstrip section of the webserver.
RS232 in and out
The RS232 jack does two jobs in one socket. It lets you control the Diva from a Mac, Windows or Linux computer, using either the supplied DB9 to jack cable or the USB to jack cable. It also lets the Diva command an RS232 capable display or piece of equipment, sending the commands you have defined based on the incoming signal type, so a projector can switch to its HDR mode the moment HDR content arrives. Default link speed is 19200 baud, and the CEC and RS232 section covers testing your commands.
SPDIF or L/R analog out
One 3.5mm combo jack carries either analog left and right stereo or optical S/PDIF up to 5.1, using the supplied jack optical cable for the latter. It extracts the HDMI sound coming from any source device connected to the Diva inputs, and it can also output ARC audio taken from TX0, which is how a TV app's soundtrack reaches an AVR that only has an optical input.
Both the front and back panels carry jacks, so check the labels rather than reaching blindly behind the rack. Two of the cables in the box, the IR RX lead and the lag tester, can be extended with any ordinary 2.5mm earphone jack extender if 9ft does not reach.
