HDfury Diva frequently asked questions
The questions HDfury is asked most often about the Diva, with the answers from the manual. Several of them are really questions about HDMI itself rather than about the unit.
- What is the difference between the splitter and the matrix option, and what are the options for each mode?
- The Diva works as a matrix when each output is given its own input, and as a splitter when one output is set to follow the other, which is what the follow setting in the port selector does. The manual illustrates the options available in both modes with a chart, and the INFO section page of this manual covers the port selector where you make that choice.
- Can I pass through a 4K60 4:4:4 or HDR signal and still have one output at a lower resolution?
- Yes. Connected correctly to the downscale output port, TX1, the Diva automatically scales UHD down to FHD when the connected sink requires it, and TX1 is capable of converting 4K HDR to 1080p SDR. It works the other way round too: the upscale port, TX0, can scale FHD up to UHD if the sink connected there requires it. The scaler section page covers the controls.
- My display is supposed to accept 4K60 4:4:4 signals but it does not work. Why?
- For most UHD TV sets there are extra configuration options that have to be activated before a 4K60 4:4:4 600MHz link is possible. On a Samsung, for example, you must go to settings, then HDMI, then UHD colour and enable it, and then assign HDMI port 1 as PC in the tools menu. Only after both steps will 600MHz be accepted. Similar activation tricks are required on most UHD TVs, and most of them have only specific ports that are 600MHz capable, so check which port you are using as well.
- I have a PC mode on my TV, or a PC monitor. Which resolutions are supported in graphics mode?
- All PC graphics modes within the 600MHz bandwidth are supported, including ultra-high resolutions such as WQSXGA, QUXGA, QFHD, WQUXGA and 4K.
- What output resolutions does the Diva support in HDTV mode?
- All known SD, HD, Full HD and UHD formats, including 480i50, 480i60, 480p50, 480p60, 576p50, 576p60, 720p50, 720p60, 720p100, 720p120, 1080i25, 1080i30, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p30, 1080p48, 1080p50, 1080p60, 1080p72, 1080p75, 1080p96, 1440p50, 1440p60, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p30, 2160p50 and 2160p60. Those are examples only: anything within the 600MHz bandwidth is supported.
- What version of HDMI does the Diva work with? Do I need HDMI 1.3, 1.4a, 2.0a or 2.0b?
- It does not matter. The Diva works with any version of HDMI from 1.0 upwards.
- Do I need to set anything special on my source to get the resolution right?
- No. The Diva is detected by your source as a 2160p60 4:4:4 capable device and it will always accept and process the highest quality stream your source can produce. There is no need to set the source to any particular resolution.
- Is there any latency or delay added to the signal?
- Virtually none. The latency added is in the order of a few pixel clocks, which is nothing noticeable.
- What about long HDMI cable runs? Should I expect problems?
- For 600MHz you must use high speed cables, or cables certified for 600MHz and 18Gbps, and ideally between 6ft and 12ft for proper 600MHz 18Gbps pass-through. For 4K30, 1080p or less, almost any cable is fine. The Diva acts as an HDMI repeater, so having it in the path amplifies and recovers the signal and you should not need passive or active HDMI amplifiers, particularly if you place the Diva in the middle of the run. If you previously needed an amplifier, the Diva can most likely take its place. It has been used with 50 foot and longer cables without issue, including copper, active and fibre solutions.
- How are lossless audio formats such as DTS-HD MA and Dolby Digital Plus handled? Are they stripped down to the DTS core or to Dolby Digital for S/PDIF?
- Lossless audio is transmitted through the HDMI output only. The Diva does not compress or otherwise downconvert the incoming audio. Only stereo and 5.1 sound can leave by the S/PDIF output, and the analog output supports stereo only.
- How do I hook up the audio from the Diva?
- The Diva has both analog and digital TOSLINK audio output in one connector, labelled SPDIF + L/R. It is a two-in-one connector: plug in either a 3.5mm stereo analog jack or a digital mini-TOSLINK 3.5mm cable and you get stereo analog sound or 5.1 Dolby and DTS digital sound out of the unit. To use a regular full-size TOSLINK cable, add a 3.5mm mini-TOSLINK to TOSLINK adapter. A plain 3.5mm stereo cable is what you want if you have no home theatre setup and only the two speakers in your TV.
