The HDfury Diva dynamic EDID mode

Automix is the mode to reach for when two sinks with different capabilities are connected at once and you want both a picture and sound on each of them.

Every source reads an EDID from whatever it is plugged into and then sends the best signal that EDID describes. When one box sits in front of two displays it has to answer that question on their behalf, and the honest answer is the lowest common denominator, whatever both sinks agree on. That costs you picture or sound quality for no good reason.

Automix is a dynamic EDID mode. Rather than copying one sink or presenting a fixed table, it reads the real capabilities of the sinks connected at that moment, combines them with an algorithm you choose, and then applies the overrides you have ticked. Unplug a display or switch one on and the mixed EDID changes with it.

Automix on the HDfury Diva

AUTOMIX is one of the five EDID modes in the EDID section, alongside COPY TX0 SINK, COPY TX1 SINK, FIXED EDID and CUSTOM. It is the natural choice for pass-through, because it aims to keep a picture and sound available at all times. Select it with set edidmode automix, or from the OLED menu under EDID Mode.

Five algorithms decide how the sinks are combined before your flags land: Min Mixed Capabilities, Max Audio / Min Video, TX0 Output Priority, TX1 Output Priority and Max Audio / Max Video. The OLED menu lists the same five under EDID Algo as 0-Normal, 1-Max Audio, Prio TX0, Prio TX1 and 4-Max All, and the command is set edidalgo 4, with values from 0 to 4.

Fourteen flags then force individual parameters, grouped as audio, HDR, colour and Dolby Vision.

2.0 Stereo, 5.1 Multi, 7.1 Full

Force the mixed EDID to present stereo, 5.1 or full 7.1 audio whatever the sinks claim.

TX0, TX1, AUDIO OUT

Force the audio capabilities of one particular sink. AUDIO OUT is the one to use when your AVR is fed from the dedicated HDMI audio output.

HDR 10+, HLG, 2020/xvYCC

Add HDR10+, HLG, or BT.2020 and xvYCC support to the mixed EDID.

no YCbCr, no 3D

Present no support for YCbCr, which is how you force RGB, or no support for 3D.

DV Force Metadata, DV Remove, DV Limit 300MHz

Present Dolby Vision support, present none, or allow Dolby Vision only at 300MHz.

The classic case is a stereo television and a full-sound AVR on the two outputs. By default Automix reports stereo, because that is what both sinks agree on. Check the full audio flag and the source sends the soundtrack your AVR can actually decode.
