Custom EDID
The 100 EDID tables and the ten custom banks
In short
An EDID chosen from a stored table or uploaded by hand and presented to a source in place of the one the connected display actually offers.
CUSTOM is the EDID mode where nothing is copied and nothing is mixed. You pick a table for each input and the source is told exactly what you decided it should be told.
EDID, Extended Display Identification Data, is the block a display hands back to whatever is plugged into it, listing resolutions, colour formats, HDR support and audio formats. Every source reads it and then sends the best signal that block says is supported.
A custom EDID replaces that conversation. Rather than reporting what the sink says, the device in the middle presents a stored EDID of your choosing. The reason is usually the lowest common denominator: with a matrix, a receiver and two displays of different ages in the chain, the honest mixed answer is whatever they all agree on, and you lose picture or sound quality for no good reason.
The other reason is that sources differ. A games console and a disc player do not need to be told the same story, so a per-input EDID lets each one be handled on its own terms.
The 100 EDID tables on the HDfury Diva
CUSTOM is one of the five modes in the EDID section, alongside COPY TX0 SINK, COPY TX1 SINK, FIXED EDID and AUTOMIX. It lets you define an individual EDID for each input from a list of 10 custom and 90 predefined tables. There is nothing to confirm: click a bank in the dropdown and it is loaded, and hot plug detect events reset the signal so your chosen EDID is presented automatically. By default the selected table is a 4K60 4:4:4 600MHz EDID with full audio capabilities.
- Banks 1 to 10
- The custom banks. Seven arrive filled with useful tables, including Dolby Vision strings taken from real displays, and 8, 9 and 10 are left empty for an EDID you upload yourself.
- Banks 11 to 100
- The predefined tables, in a strict pattern: a video format, then a colour and HDR variant, then one of three audio levels, all sound, S/PDIF or stereo. Table 11 is 4K60-444 600MHz HDR BT2020 All Sound; table 13 is the same video with stereo only.
Over RS232 or IP the mode is set edidmode custom and each input gets its own table with set edidtableinp0 11. Values run from 1 to 100 for input 0 and from 0 to 100 for the other three, where 0 means copy the table assigned to port 0.
Getting your own EDID into a bank
- Use DOWNLOAD ACTIVE EDID TABLES in the EDID section to save the EDID from any input or output, so you keep the original before changing anything.
- Under UPLOAD EDID TABLES, select the EDID file and the custom EDID table number, then click SEND EDID.
- Set the mode to CUSTOM and assign that bank to the input that needs it.
- Click REFRESH and check the EDID rows in the INFO section to confirm the source now sees what you intended.
